USCCB Action Alert: CONGRESS: Don’t enrich global abortion providers!

December 2, 2019

Global abortion providers might get an extra $57 million a year, if an amendment to a spending bill is passed by Congress. And pro-life and pro-family groups might get blacklisted by the same bill. Raise your voice + tell Congress that this is unacceptable.

How did this happen? The extra millions were included in an amendment by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) that was added to the Senate’s State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs (SFOPS) appropriations bill. The Shaheen amendment also effectively “names and shames” faith or community-based partners, particularly pro-life and pro-family partners, via devious new reporting requirements. The resulting blacklist is designed to drive qualified faith-based providers away from providing much needed foreign assistance.

Last year, the U.S. provided nearly $280 million in foreign aid to groups involved in abortion activities overseas.

USCCB Action Alert: Tell your government leaders to oppose U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement!

November 27, 2019

On November 4th, President Donald J. Trump initiated formal U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement. This agreement unites all countries to address climate change and environmental degradation.

In Laudato Si’, Pope Francis wrote that “a global consensus is essential” for protecting the environment and life on earth. The Paris Agreement signifies international recognition that climate change imperils the entire human race. Poor and vulnerable communities in the U.S. and around the world are already suffering from natural disasters, storms, droughts, conflict, diseases, and food scarcities.

Climate change is one of the principal challenges of our time and U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement is a critical step in the wrong direction. Please urge your government leaders to stand up for life and oppose U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement!

USCCB Action Alert: Let Catholic Agencies Continue to Serve Vulnerable People

November 26, 2019

Catholic agencies provide important social services to vulnerable people and families, including in the areas of adoption and foster care.  In order to continue to offer care to people in need, the Church must be free to operate in accordance with her convictions.

A 2016 regulation from Health and Human Services (HHS) threatened to shut out faith-based social service providers, including adoption and foster care agencies that respect a child’s right to a mother and a father. To restrict faith-based organizations’ work by infringing on religious freedom – as the 2016 rule threatened to do – is unfair and serves no one, especially the children in need of these services.  The Trump Administration has proposed a change to the 2016 rule, which would give faith-based agencies the space to continue to serve.

When there are over 400,000 children are in foster care, we need to take steps to increase – not decrease – their opportunities to be placed with safe and loving families.   Join the USCCB in urging the Administration to adopt the proposed rule change.

USCCB Take Action: Urge Congress to require the bodies of aborted babies to be treated with dignity

November 13, 2019

All Americans were horrified when the bodies of 2,246 unborn babies were found stored in a home and a car,the work of notorious Indiana abortionist Dr. Ulrich Klopfer.  Klopfer operated three abortion clinics in South Bend, Indiana, before his license was suspended in 2015.

US Representative Jackie Walorski and US Senator Mike Braun have introduced new federal legislation to ensure respectful burial or cremation of the unborn and to take action against abortion providers who desecrate the bodies of unborn babies.

Among other provisions of their bill, any abortion provider who fails to comply with the law will face fines of up to $50,000 and a prison term of up to 5 years, or both.

The bill also compels abortion providers to report to the Secretary of HHS the number of abortions they performed, the gestational age of the baby aborted, and the number of fetal remains transferred for interment, cremation or released to the parents. (Chemical abortions are not included.)

If only enacted sooner, this kind of law might have stopped Dr. Klopfer and other abortion providers like him.

What has happened here is truly terrible. Please take a moment to send a message to your Senators and Representative asking them to support and pass the Dignity for Aborted Children Act.

You can find if your US Representative or Senators have already co-sponosored the bill here:
